Well it is Friday folks, and I am as excited as ever to start a great weekend. Who is running the Monument 10k? I love race weekends especially for a run as fun as this one. For those of you unfamiliar with this race, it is 6.2 miles on the lovely (and luckily flat) Monument Avenue. This is one of the most beautiful streets in RVA complete with fantastic architecture on some of the oldest giant mansions in the city, and famous monuments studding the whole race path.
I am a wee bit worried because I have not done as much speed training as I would like, but I keep telling myself to just run for me not for a time and even if I am not in marathon shape, I will still be running for my health and happiness and that is all that matters.
I am mostly excited because I have a millionnnn friends coming to town to run the race and partake in festivities after! We are going to buy fresh pasta and sauce from Bombolini Pasta, a short walk from my apt, and feast on this banana pudding featured on Anne’s blog I Simply Love.
The best part of a race is the endorphins you get post crossing the finish line, and of course the drinks you share guiltlessly with friends. Hydration is key.
Are you running this weekend? Are you worried about getting a certain time?
See you on the course!

I don’t know if I’m up for the running part, but I will definitely be up for the food and drink part.
Lucky! Your post inspires me to keep going on the treadmill. Can’t run outside for 6 more weeks!
Greetings from north of the Arctic Circle.
i’ve already eaten 6 mini kit kat bars today
I’m running the Cherry Blossom Ten Miler in DC this weekend and I am ALWAYS paranoid about getting a good time. I really just need to run a race for FUN and relax. Stop at each water station, high five spectators, maybe slow down to take a pic. But i just can’t. I am so hard on myself once I get out there. Anyway, let us know how the 10k went. Can’t wait to hear. I’m sure you did great.
