After months of searching, a million tweets, and a blog post, I have finally found my second marathon. One of the guys I train with who is also trying to get a Boston PR was the one who initially suggested it to me and I think it is absolutely perfect. I am going to run the Via of the Lehigh Valley in Allentown, PA. I know what you are thinking, and yes. I will be listening to Billy Joel’s Allentown the entire car ride there, I apologize in advance.
This race is literally the perfect for me. As many of you know I really really really want to run Boston. I qualified by like 40 seconds at the Richmond Marathon, but that is probably not going to get me through the lottery. This race is the last day before sign-up opens, it is supposed to be amazing for qualifying/PR’ing, and is for a great cause. The Via of Lehigh Valley supports children and adults with disabilities like austism, down syndrome, and cerebral palsy. My smart and dashing cousin who just got into JMU (woot) has CP so I could not be happier about the charity this race benefits.
Now onto the tough stuff. I have to expedite my training like nuts.
I definitely have enough time to train, but since I want to shave off at least five minutes on my BQ time I have to take these next few months incredibly seriously and not skimp out on training, eat right, and buckle down. This is harder now than ever since I am working longer hours, it is hella hot outside, and summer is packed with fun boozey events.
What are your tips on getting in race shape fast??!

Ain’t nothin’ to it but to do it, Britters!!
You should come meet me!!! Run the half
That’s so awesome!!! You’re going to be amazing!
Thanks Liz!!
Vegas is definitely a good idea then
Hey! I currently live in the Lehigh Valley- Bethlehem, and am participating in the LVHN Marathon as well. I’m only doing a relay race, so I’ll be around to also cheer you on! Let me know if you need any advice on places to stay/eat/etc. while you’re here!
Oh this is wonderful! I definitely need suggestions for all of those things I have never been to PA. What do you think?? Have you run any of the route before? Advice?
Sorry! I just saw that you responded to this. I can’t believe how close it is to marathon time! I do not know anything about the route- I was actually just thinking how I should have looked into that myself. But what I can help with is where to eat while you are here…Mama Nina’s in downtown Bethlehem, (which is the cutest area in the Lehigh Valley), has awesome Italian food and is probably the most popular restaurant here. There is also a great tapas restaurant that has amazing sangria a couple doors down, and they have delicious food as well. Those are our two favorite places to eat/drink. Where are you staying? If you’d like friends to go out with after the race just let me know- we’d be happy to show you around!
Don’t you work? Lucky you then.
I do indeed work
