Peking Duck House

Peking Duck is probably one of my favorite foods.  It has duck which has basically been crisped by its own fat little body that is served with sweet bean/hosin/or plum sauce, cucumbers, and scallions.  You wrap this all up in an asian style pancake and shove it in your mouth.  Our original intent for the night was to go to the famed Mission Chinese.  The waitress told me there would be a three hour wait, and since we went early we decided to endure the passing time by grabbing a drink(s).  We patiently waited our three hours and went back to check on the queue and were politely informed there were still 10 reservations ahead of us…

A nice couple that was also attempting to weather the wait suggested that we try Peking Duck House.  They explained that they made the best Peking Duck in the city.  Those are fighting words to me since I have had Peking Duck in China and was not necessarily sold by this weighty comment.   They then explained that they also had a “bring your own wine” policy. Done.  We hopped over with a cheap bottle of pino and set out to enjoy our own personal duck.

They sell birds by the whole or half (clearly we went for the big guy) and within minutes a man wheels out a cart and carves the meat tableside.

They give plenty of pancakes and sides.

I absolutely adore the sweet couple that suggested we try Peking Duck House because it was incredible.  Who needs acclaimed NYC restaurants with 5 hour waits when you can have immediate gratification on a budget?
