Guess what guys??? I GOT INTO GRAD SCHOOL!!! So you know when I was super sketchy and took a month off of blogging and said it was for a redesign? While there definitely a site metamorphosis underway, I was mostly going gray in the hair working tirelessly on my application to the VCU Brandcenter.
Now to give you a little background into Brandcenter, explain why I was so psycho MIA during the process, and to toot my own horn, it is basically the best advertising school in the country. Here are some accolades:
#1 advertising program by Creative magazine
Top media and marketing program by Ad Age magazine
Top global/business design program by Business Week magazine
Awarted title of “Top Business Program in the World” after winning the Innovation Challenge award in 2011, in a global competition among 180 top MBA programs
They have a pretty low acceptance rate, so you can see why I was super stressed out and was unsure of my chances. I don’t talk very much about work on the blog, but to let you in on what I do professionally, I have been working in government affairs and lobbying for the last four years. Advertising may seem a bit outside my wheelhouse, since all I have ever done is politics, however, I had been really lusting after a creative environment and knew a lot about the program from Trey’s experience. Every moment I wasn’t working I was writing, meeting with advertising gurus, and studying for the GRE.
I was a neurotic wreck through the whole process, since I haven’t done anything with math since 2005, and having to wrap my head around a whole new subject matter took some research. I submitted my application in February and have been waiting to hear back from the admissions coordinator, nervously checking my inbox each morning.
I found out today that I have been accepted to the class of 2015 and I could not be more excited to start this Fall! I am pursuing a Creative Brand Management track, which blends the creative side with the business side, and I will be learning about accounting, communication, product innovation, strategy, brand development, and infinite other marketing tools.
Additionally, it is probably time to announce that I will be in LA this summer working with a public relations firm before school starts. I have lots and lots of change happening in my neck of the woods and I will 100% be documenting everything on the blog. No more secrets I promise.
So that is the big news for me today! I am so happy to share the good news with you and would love any advice, pointers, and thoughts!
Any tips for a 20 something returning to school after working?
